One of them jokes about taking home a "moose," which here refers to an unattractive woman, not the large, goofy-looking member of the deer family. The health risks of overdrinking are one thing, but heaven forbid you bag someone ugly, am I right fellas? Fellas? Anyway, the most interesting thing about this campaign is <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/bryonygordon/7547549/A-moose-Drink-up-and-youll-only-see-the-horns.html" target="_blank">the <em>Daily Mail</em>'s response</a>, which points out that the ads aren't going to affect guys who don't mind having sex with literally anything while they're drunk. The writer also suspects that "this campaign was dreamed up by some advertising executives in skinny jeans who drink vodka martinis in the bars of five-star boutique hotels." If so, let's hope they kept their designer martini goggles in their pockets. The experiment, shown in the behind-the-scenes video below, is more interesting than the final ad, <a href="http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/2010/09/100-cats-set-free-in-ikea-for-new-british-spot.html#more">posted after the jump</a>—which is just some cats in a store being cute. But I think they have a decent viral on their hands with the cat-umentary, given how the Internet loves cats beyond all sense and reason. The "Happy inside" effort is Mother's first for Ikea. According to Feh Tarty, creative director at Mother, "Cats know better than anything what makes them feel happy inside. They live their lives in pursuit of their own comfort." Which I guess means we'll be treated to a lot more cat executions, since everyone knows there's nothing better than cats, except more cats. The Gate Worldwide employs such deep-sea melodramatics for State Street Global Advisors to illustrate that folks should know what's going on inside their portfolios. Here's the twist: The turmoil's taking place inside a kid's bathtub sub. Sure, I sank the surprise ending for you, but we've never really been pals, have we? The kid here looks way too young to be investing in SPDRS, but I'm probably missing the point, as always. (<a href="http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/2010/07/specsavers-plumbs-depths-in-das-boot-ad.html">Specsavers' U-boat is still the flagship example of this approach.</a>) There's a second State Street spot, <a href="http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/2010/09/state-street-mans-torpedoes-in-u-boat-spot.html#more">after the jump</a>, with a doctor revealed as Jekyll. That's not much of a spoiler. With the misty Victorian setup and foamy lab potions, you wouldn't be expecting Dr. House. Though that would've been one hell of a reveal. And Hugh Laurie would kick ass in that role. Not only that, he assaulted the poor woman in public, for which he was fined, put under a curfew and electronically tagged. And if that's not bad enough, he used to be a DJ on community radio. The guy, Rashid Omar, appears ever so briefly in the spot—he's the guy on the far left in the van, leering and catcalling at the woman on the sidewalk. (He's a natural!) One would think his audition was a cattle call that randomly placed him in this ad, because there's no way he'd be audacious enough to pursue this particular job on purpose. And since criminal background checks aren't required for casting, it could very well have been an honest mistake. All the same, stay classy, Wales. </p> <p><iframe frameborder="0" height="239" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/12971188?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0" width="425"></iframe></p></div><div class="feedflare"> <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Adfreak?a=qWfqdNR3QXA:8t7gBxkqukw:yIl2AUoC8zA"><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Adfreak?d=yIl2AUoC8zA" border="0"></img></a> <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Adfreak?a=qWfqdNR3QXA:8t7gBxkqukw:7Q72WNTAKBA"><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Adfreak?d=7Q72WNTAKBA" border="0"></img></a> <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Adfreak?a=qWfqdNR3QXA:8t7gBxkqukw:2mJPEYqXBVI"><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Adfreak?d=2mJPEYqXBVI" border="0"></img></a> <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Adfreak?a=qWfqdNR3QXA:8t7gBxkqukw:dnMXMwOfBR0"><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Adfreak?d=dnMXMwOfBR0" border="0"></img></a> </div><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Adfreak/~4/qWfqdNR3QXA" height="1" width="1"/> http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/2010/09/domestic-abuse-psa-actor-beats-up-woman.html Minis spawn and soar in trippy European ad tag:typepad.com,2003:post-6a00d8341c51c053ef01348727b504970c 2010-09-09T09:54:36-04:00 2010-09-09T13:54:56Z 2010-09-09T13:54:36Z You can't look away, but maybe you should, because other than the impressive visuals, there's scant payoff. By adding more than a minute of new footage to <a href="http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/2010/08/halo-reach-wakes-up-a-little-in-latest-spot.html">the trailer we covered a few weeks back</a>, agencytwofifteen and director Noam Murro have turned a pretty good commercial in to a pretty epic bit of cinema. The extra footage adds some much-needed pacing and makes the spot far more immersive. Now we just have to hope the game lives up to it. Guess we’ll find out on Sept. 14.</p> <p><object height="264" width="425"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DKRlWLDWhGI?fs=1&hl=en_US&ap=%2526fmt%3D18&showinfo=0"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DKRlWLDWhGI?fs=1&hl=en_US&ap=%2526fmt%3D18&showinfo=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="264" width="425"></object></p></div> <div class="feedflare"> <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Adfreak?a=wbS1TIZJD60:V7NyeGYPfb8:yIl2AUoC8zA"><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Adfreak?d=yIl2AUoC8zA" border="0"></img></a> <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Adfreak?a=wbS1TIZJD60:V7NyeGYPfb8:7Q72WNTAKBA"><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Adfreak?d=7Q72WNTAKBA" border="0"></img></a> <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Adfreak?a=wbS1TIZJD60:V7NyeGYPfb8:2mJPEYqXBVI"><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Adfreak?d=2mJPEYqXBVI" border="0"></img></a> <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Adfreak?a=wbS1TIZJD60:V7NyeGYPfb8:dnMXMwOfBR0"><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Adfreak?d=dnMXMwOfBR0" border="0"></img></a> </div><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Adfreak/~4/wbS1TIZJD60" height="1" width="1"/> http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/2010/09/halo-reach-goes-epic-with-extended-trailer.html
